Liverpool Target Playmaker Signing; £53 Million Quoted As Transfer Fee

Even though Premier League Champions Liverpool do not necessarily need to sign an attacker this season, they have been quoted to be in pole position to complete the capture of Portuguese side Sporting CP’s Pedro Goncalves. According to a recent report from Portuguese media outlet Record, the European Champions have enquired about the possibility of signing the player from Portugal.

The Portuguese source also stated that Sporting do not have any intention of allowing their prized asset to leave the club anytime soon and have bluntly warned Liverpool off their player. He has a £53 million release clause in the most recent contract he signed and as far as Sporting are concerned, there will only be negotiations when the release clause is triggered

The 22-year-olf attacker only joined the Portuguese outfit for a fee of €6.5 million but has majorly performed for his club as a right-winger. He was initially brought in as a direct replacement for the already departed Bruno Fernandes who left the club and signed for Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United last January. He has already had a contribution of q4 goals so far this season. He has scored 12 goals and registered 2 assists for his club in what is becoming a very fruitful debut campaign.

Liverpool did boost their attacking line with the summer acquisition of Pedro’s compatriot Diogo Joya from Wolverhampton Wanderers and he has already hit the ground running at Anfield. However, with the club’s most recent attacking option out injured, he has been missed by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

While Liverpool are in dire need of a top center-back due to the absence of Virgil van Dijk, it is yet to be understood why they are in the market for an attacker.
